Testimonies

Ms. Scoggins is a leader in and out of the classroom. Her hard work and determination for success within the classroom drive our school towards greatness, and she continually fosters a thirst for knowledge within her students. Ms. Scoggins never fails to give her students her all, and always keeps class engaging.  Her compassion towards teaching, knowledge of Spanish, and willingness to help students makes her one of the most loved teachers at our school! She is a role model and an excellent mentor to me and many other students.

~Jillian Russert, Watauga High School sophomore

While she teaches Spanish passionately, Ms. Scoggins includes many life skills in her class. I learned more about collaboration, creativity, positivity, and communication in her Spanish classes than in any other classes I have taken. Ms. Scoggins encourages her students to take every opportunity to learn new things, to ask for help if we need it, and to take responsibility for our own learning.  Ms. Scoggins is passionate not only about Spanish, but also about her students. She works hard to create strong relationships with us, and is able to do so with her caring nature, leadership skills, and good sense of humor. I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to learn so much from Ms. Scoggins!

~Riley Kiker, Watauga High School Junior

Carmen is the epitome of a life-long learner and an educator who seeks to improve her practice. Her ability to shine light on the life changing benefits of learning a world language for her students is a gift that is her life’s work and one she considers essential for the next generation.  As her classroom practice demonstrates, Ms. Scoggins is committed to learning and teaching language through innovative, tech-savvy ways in order to afford her students every opportunity for a fun, exciting, and relevant learning experience.  Carmen’s enthusiasm for learning challenges everyone around her to better themselves.

~Keana Triplett, Academic Instructional Coach, Watauga High School; 2015-16 NC Teacher of the Year

Carmen is the Yoda to my Luke Skywalker and the Sam Wise to my Frodo.  I would not be where I am today without her wisdom and care.  I have never met a person more dedicated to education.  She is an amazing teacher and she inspired students like me to pursue careers in education because we want to serve others the way Carmen has served us.

~Drew Mullen, former methods student and student teacher and current Spanish teacher

Carmen has been my mentor and friend for the last 15 years.  She started teaching me when I was in the 9th grade taking Spanish 1, and now I just completed my 8th year as a high school Spanish teacher.  Actually, I have the privilege of teaching right beside her every day!  She introduced me to FLANC, SCOLT, and ACTFL, and she has taught me that learning never ceases.

~Savannah Wilson, former high school and methods student, current colleague
